THE ORGANIZATIONS

Home-Start

Thanet

Home-Start offers early intervention support to parents with young children throughout Thanet. Established in 1987 the charity has delivered bespoke packages of support to local parents juggling the demands of parenting often increased by other issues impacting on family life.

The charity offers a unique service directly into the family's homes, where they get to meet and assess the real issues, and together with the parents design a bespoke package of support which is offered weekly for up to 6 months. Home-Start Thanet also provide one-to-one emotional support to parents requiring more focused support.

Home-Start Thanet will continue to offer support during the Coronavirus crisis. This support will be via the telephone and emails.

Volunteer

Volunteers are urgently needed now for the parent support helpline which has had seen a huge increase of demand. It has already been providing vital help to the vulnerable families affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. Home-Start Thanet hope to keep up the great support especially with the prediction of possible lasting repercussions for these families once the lockdown eases.

BeYou by Porchlight

BeYou are still here to support LGBT+ young people (and parents / carers), but are changing the way this happens.

Support will be carried out over the phone or online instead of meeting face-to-face. Weekly BeYou meet-ups are not currently being held, but they are looking into ways to carry these out online. DETAILS TO FOLLOW SHORTLY.

BeYou understand that LGBT+ young people can experience feelings of isolation at the best of times, so we’re doing what we can to ensure they feel connected, supported and part of the community.

——————–

BeYou run a weekly meet-up in Thanet. These are safe spaces that anyone who thinks they might be LGBT+ can come along to.

It’s a chance to meet new people who share similar feelings and experiences, socialise and just hang out in a safe and non-judgemental setting.

Cliftonville Community Centre

We Stand Together club is run by the Cliftonville Community Centre, and is just one of the many community outreach groups they provide.

The family club supports children and carers of the local Czech and Slovak communities. Often providing a meal and the space to talk about their worries affecting the family home life regarding debt, housing issues, racism and hate crime, The Centre also invites the services in such as social workers, police and firefighters in civilian clothing for informal talks. They also run health and wellbeing family days, rounders on the beach, international food celebrations and healthy cooking classes.

Over this time of COVID-19 the centre has had to close their doors to the We Stand Together club and the other groups. However they are working hard remotely to help in any way they can via phone calls and emails. These forms of contact are often to help with administrative support, and translation as the computers with internet access in the centre are now not available to the community.

Whilst the centre is closed they are handing out food vouchers at the back of St Paul’s Church, St Pauls Road Margate, Kent 10.30am - 12pm Mon, Tues & Thurs.

Donate

If you would like to donate food, handmade face masks, clothing for children and adults please text or email the above details.
